Our new BFF: Belushi's Café

Sometimes the things you think are going to be hard are easy. And sometimes it's the other way around. Location scouting for My Bitchy Witchy Paris Vacation is a case in point. A Parisian café? A river boat? Easy peasy. The American library, a church, and iconic exteriors? Why not? No budget? No problem!

But when it came to finding a ladies' room in which to film a crucial scene, I was stumped. I never realized how tiny public bathroom spaces are in Paris. Or how much traffic they get. Close down a ladies' room for six hours? "Desolé madame, je ne peux pas bloquer les toilettes." I must be crazy, quoi!

I searched and searched. And searched some more. Then one evening while at a Bridge Media Network event at Belushi's Café in the 19th arrondissement, I found the loo that had eluded me for so long. A few phone calls later, and by Wednesday all was set for a Sunday shoot.

It suddenly seemed too easy. I didn't quite trust it. Something was surely going to go wrong.

A few things did go wrong--a last minute costume crisis, an actress lost in an unfamiliar neighborhood, faulty sound equipment that had to be replaced. But the location couldn't have been more perfect. The Belushi's team was helpful and friendly, the women who were forced kindly asked to use the men's room were supportive and curious about our production, and the coffee was great.

A combination youth hostel, restaurant, bar, and club, Belushi's Paris is located on the Bassin de la Villette. This modern backpacker's dream come true combines live music, a great bar, free internet access and the backdrop used in the film Amélie. The next time you're in the neighborhood, stop by!
